Astana commemorates 17th anniversary of Khojali tragedy

Astana commemorated the 17th anniversary of Khojali tragedy.

The events were organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kazakhstan in the assembly hall of the Economy Technical School in Astana. 

On Feb. 25-26 Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali city with the help of heavy equipment and riffle regiment 366 of the former SSSR, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kazakhstan Latif Gandilov said.

Khojali was destroyed as a result of shelling from heavy equipment.

"Some 613 people were killed, out of which 63 were children, 106 - women, 70 - elderly persons and 150 people missed. The damage caused to the state established at 5 billion rouble (in 1992)," Gandilov added.

The events attended by Azerbaijani Diaspora, officials of Turkish and Georgian Embassies, Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Friendship Association, scientists, students and journalists.
