FIFA referee to go on hunger-strike (UPDATED)

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 2 / Trend A. Huseynbala /

FIFA referee Babek Guliyev to go on hunger-strike because of his removal from Azerbaijani football matches, referee said at the press-conference on July 2.

"I will go on hunger strike in a week as a protest to my illegal removal. I will fight till I restore my rights," Guliyev said.

He was dismissed because he refused from fulfilling request of chairman of Judge Committee of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan Khagani Mammadov during Azerbaijani Premier-League match between Baki and Simurg teams, he said.

Guliyev was dismissed in March. He is FIFA referee several years.

"Before match Mammadov told me that head of Professional Football League Ramin Musayev wants Karabakh to win. I said that will conduct match within rules. I stand for victory of the strongest one," FIFA referee said.

"I asked not to appoint me for this match because I did not intend to fulfill request of Mammadov. Judge Committee chairman did not agree. He said that Karabakh is our soul. So, Ramin wants the team to win over Baki. I reminded that I will not do anything in somebody's favour," Guliyev said.

He faced indignation of Mammadov and Musayev because of victory in Baki match scoring 2:0, he said.

Guliyev applied to AFFA president Rovnag Abdullayev to investigate this illegal action.

Judge Committee chairman Khagani Mammadov told Trend that he will give detailed information concerning Guliyev's accusations.
