Azerbaijani Press Council got 247 appeals in the first half of 2009.
"Roughly 81 were received from state departments, enterprises and organizations, 24 from public organizations, 5 from political parties, 13 from municipal agencies, 35 from private enterprises and 89 from individual citizens", press-service of Press Council told Trend on August 5.
Over 3,300 media outlets were registered in Azerbaijan. At present, roughly 600 operate. Roughly 400 newspapers and magazines are published. Over 20 TV channels operate. There are 50 E-media and 20 information agencies, the rest ones - Internet resources in Azerbaijan.
Roughly 23 complaints outside of Press Council's competence were forwarded to corresponding agencies for consideration. Council's secretariat took appropriate measures to consider rest 224 appeals.
"Secretariat calls on sides, defendants and plaintiffs, concerning 181 complaints to come to the Counicl. At this stage, 79 cases were solved. Parties reached agreement. The rest 102 cases, due to non-agreement between parties, all cases and materials were submitted for consideration to corresponding commissions of the Council," the report says.
Roughly 102 complaints received by Press Counicil in the first half of 2009 were considered in commissions.
Roughly 55 were considered by the commission on complaints, 36 - in the committee on combat with racket journalism, 11 - constant committee on problems between media and government organizations.
Roughly 31 of 55 cases considered by the Commission on complaints have been solved at the level of the Commission. Conclusions were made on these cases. Conclusions on rest 24 cases were submitted to the Council's board to make decison, the report says.
Roughly 36 complaints were considered in the commission for combat with racket journalism.
Roughly 11 complaints were considered in constant committee to resolve problems between media and government organizations. "Roughly 7 were solved but 4 are still under consideration due to need for additional materials," the Council said.
Roughly 24 complaints were discussed in Council's board.
In the first half of 2009, Press Council received 78 appeals from Baku, 11 - from Ganja, 9 -from Lankaran and Mingechevir, 8 - from Salyan, Lachin, Geygel, Shirvan and Shaki regions - 7 - from Hajigabul, Neftchala, Agjabedi, Imishli and Sabirabad regions, 6 - from Gedabey, Guba and Barda, 5 - from Lerik and Masalli regions, 4 - from Samukh, Shamkir and Geranboy regions, 3 - from Geychay, Gazakh and Agstafa regions, 2 - from Shamakha and Astara regions. Each of other 10 regions sent one complaint.
