Heads of the Azerbaijani constitutional and supreme courts Farhad Abdullayev and Ramiz Rzayev met with European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) President Jean-Paul Costa in Strasbourg Jan. 28, where they arrived to attend an event dedicated to the opening of the new judicial year in the ECHR.
The meeting addressed several issues of mutual interest, in particular, mutual relations between the ECHR and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's execution of ECHR decisions, and exchanging experience with Azerbaijani judges in the European Court of Human Rights.
"At the meeting, the ECHR president announced a new initiative to compare the decisions of the Azerbaijani courts and the ECHR every Tuesday, as well as to jointly discuss the decisions of the ECHR and articles of the ECHR . Jean-Paul Costa highly appreciates the initiative. At the same time adaptation of some of the laws of Azerbaijan to the European Convention on Human Rights was also discussed. In general, the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court expressed satisfaction with the relations with the ECHR," the ECHR said in a statement.
