Azerbaijan can establish Grandparents' day.

"Celebrating of this day is of great importance for strengthening the institution of a family and mutual respect," deputy chairman of the Committee on Social Policy Musa Guliyev told Trend on Friday.

Many European countries celebrate Grandparents' day. In France, it falls to the first Sunday in March, in Italy - the first Sunday in October, in Estonia - the second Sunday of September. Poland celebrates grandmothers' day (January 21) and grandfathers' day (January 22) separately.

In Turkey, this date has got bigger format. Since 2008, February 8 has been celebrated as Grandparents' International Day. This initiative was supported by the Commission on Culture as UNESCO, and the European Union. These days, regardless of age, each citizen having grandparents visit them.

The head of the public association "Care of Azerbaijani elder scientists" Nasrulla Nurullayev told Trend that, according to the mentality of the Azerbaijani people, the younger generation feels obliged to care for elder people. Creation of the Grandparents' Day can serve as another proof of this. He said that Azerbaijan, as well as the whole world, celebrate October 1 as the International Day of Elder People. But the creation of a separate day dedicated to grandparents, will strengthen the younger generation's attention to their problems.
