National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) has not received applications to participate in the contest announced for the opening of a new radio station, National Television and Radio Council chairman Nushiravan Maharramli told Trend.

NTRC announced a contest to open a new station which will broadcast on the frequency 103.3 FM. Applications are accepted from Nov. 25 to Dec.25.

Thirteen radio stations operate in Azerbaijan.

According to Maharramli, if appeals are not received by Dec.25, the NTRC will extend the deadline.

Maharramli also touched upon the issue of opening the country's thematic channels. According to him, there is no need to open a lot of such television resources. "A great number of thematic channels are needed for major countries," Maharramli said.

CJSC Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting (AzTV) won the tender of the National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan (NTRC) to open "Culture" channel in Azerbaijan. In addition, AzTV launched a sports channel.
