Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 3 / Trend /
Azerbaijan does not yet have a law on cable television. However, the Azerbaijani National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council (NTRBC) has adopted rules regulating activities in this area, NTRBC head Nushiravan Maharramli said at an international conference on the "Development of Cable Television in Azerbaijan: Achievements and Prospects" in Baku.
Legislation is needed for cable television and work is underway, he said.
"I believe that in Azerbaijan, a network of cable operators, especially companies like KATV1, BBTV, AileTV, Connect TV and other cable operators, successfully conduct their activities and their union is of particular importance for addressing emerging issues," he said. "Their activities also relate to the retransmission of foreign television channels in Azerbaijan. The joint solution of problems is very important in this context. So today there is a need for organizations like the Association of Cable Operators."
The Azerbaijani Association of Cable Operators (ACOA) was established by AG Telekom and SN Telekom, which both provide cable TV services in Azerbaijan.
The association aims to coordinate the activities of the country's cable operators, to prepare in the participation of regulations governing activities, and to experience exchanges.
