Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov has today met with Iranian theologian Ayatullah Lutfullah Safi Gulpaygani in the Iranian city of Qum, the Iranian news agency MEHR reported.
"After gaining independence, 1,500 mosques were built in Azerbaijan. The country restored the Bibiheybat mosque," Akhundov said at the meeting.
Gulpaygani said all Muslims share common interests. "We wish prosperity to all Muslims around the world. We make no distinction among the Islamic countries," he said.
Gulpaygani also spoke about the importance of conservation of religious and Islamic values in Azerbaijan. He stressed the importance of further development of the Azerbaijan- Iran relations in all fields.
