It is necessary to expand the advertising market to improve the material condition of media, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Press Council, Aflatun Amashov, told Trend quoting the the Azerbaijani Press Council.
"A specific package of proposals has been prepared to expand the advertising media market. While preparing the proposals, particular attention was paid to international practice in this area. We like the fact that the state organizations place their ads in all media in Turkey that can influence public opinion and regardless of their political positions. Thus, they inform the public about its activity," Amashov said.
He said that at present, the Azerbaijani press experiences a transitional period and state aid was required.
"We live today in a transition period and use the state aid. The state provides assistance to improve the economic condition of the press. The concept of media state support was adopted in 2008. Media Development State Support Fund assists the editors by allocating grants," Amashov further said.
Azerbaijan publishes roughly 100 weeklies and more than 30 daily newspapers.
