Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev will preside at a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization, the ministry spokesman Irada Ibrahimova told Trend.
A document on regional ecological cooperation among ECO member countries is expected to be signed at the meeting, which will be held in Tehran on June 9.
Ecology ministers and deputy ministers attending the meeting are also scheduled to meet with the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was founded in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. In 1992 seven new states - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan joined the organization. As of 1993 the ECO was granted UN observer status. A year later it was also granted observer status in the OIC.
