Azerbaijan, Baku, July 28 / Trend M.Aliyev / I.Isabalayeva /
A platinum deposit was found in the Shamkir region in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry reported. A commercially viable project budget for the field's industrial development was established with geological research. It is assumed that the deposit's reserves of platinum could reach 80 -100 tons.
Field work was launched on the deposit based on the results, the ministry's report on the first half of 2011 stated.
The report indicated that work on geological exploration is being done in other parts of the country. Prospective areas are being identified and ore zones have been defined to determine the number of places rich with minerals.
There was organized surveillance on the seismogeodynamic and geophysical processes in seismically active regions, particularly, on the Absheron Peninsula and in Shamakhi-Ismayilli area. Short-term and long-term earthquake predictions were carried out here.
