US Senate and Congress members meet with representatives of Azerbaijani State University of Languages

The US Senate and Congress members held a meeting at Azerbaijani State University of Languages.

The visit of the U.S. delegation consisting of about 200 representatives of the country's Senate and Congress, was organized by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in connection with hosting the 57th Eurovision song contest in Baku.

During the visit the US Senate and Congress members also held meeting in Milli Majlis (the Azerbaijani Parliament) and Diplomatic Academy.

According to U.S. Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Adam Sterling, the US government annually finances the educational program for 150-170 students from Azerbaijan studying in USA.

"This is a great tool to create long-lasting friendship ties between our countries," Sterling said.

He added that the U.S. government pays from $8,000-10,000 a year to the American centre at the Azerbaijani State University of Languages.

According to the University's rector Samed Seidov, the University of Languages by creating the American Centre did a work not for Azerbaijan but for two countries together because they are close and share common challenges.

He said by opening this centre Azerbaijan brought American spirit here.

"The U.S. is not only our strategic partner and ally but friend. We have to be together shoulder to shoulder," Seidov said.

According to the one of the guests Jennifer Caroll, LT governor (Florida), the members of Congress and Senate are pleased to be in Azerbaijan.

"We will leave Azerbaijan with renewed vision and experience," she said.
