The Azerbaijani Professional Football League believes that it is not necessary to use the goal-line technology (GLT) as proposed by FIFA.
The system can automatically change the attitude towards football and reduce the interest in the game, Azerbaijani Professional Football League president Ramin Musayev told Trend today.
Football has unwritten laws, one of which is a long discussion of errors of referees and coaches. This increases the importance of football, he added.
Moreover, Musayev expressed concern that technical problems may occur in the most crucial moment.
"If the chip mounted in a ball has a problem, players of the opposing team may protest even in case of a one hundred per cent goal saying that the device has not worked and the goal will not been counted," he said.
This system has been recently approved at a meeting at FIFA headquarters in Zurich. The decision was made at a special meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in Zurich, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said.
It is expected that this system will be used even during the World Club Championship to be held in Japan in December 2012, the Confederations Cup in 2013 and the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
The FIFA decision means that this system may be used by the organisers of any football competitions in the world.
Meanwhile, two systems - GoalRef and Hawk-Eye are being tested. GoalRef was developed by Danish and German experts. The essence of this system lies in the fact that a magnetic field is being created in the area of the gate. Special sensors are placed in a ball. When a ball fully crosses a line, the referee receives a signal. This system is planned to be used in handball. Hawk Eye is used in tennis, cricket and volleyball. The system works in football by installing several cameras near the goalposts. They track whether the ball crosses the line.
The system was established to more precisely define a goal and avoid referee errors.
