The City Challenge car race started in Azadlig square in Baku, today, Friday.

Among the cars taking part are the Porsche 911, Aston Martin Vantage GT3, Audi R8 LMS, BMW Z4 GT3, Ferrari 458 İtalia GT3, Lamborghini Gallardo LP 600 +, and Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3.

Today, training sessions on GT, CLASSIK GRAND PRIX and GYMKHANA CITY DRIFTING competitions of City Challenge are conducted. A qualifying session and a sprint race will take place on October 27. The technical capabilities of the cars will be presented, a parade and the final part of the "City Challenge Baku-2012" will be held on the main day of the competition, October 28th.

The 2.1 km long City Challenge race circuit runs round Government House. Ten teams represented by two pilot drivers will take part. During the competition all safety rules are respected in accordance with the requirements of the local Auto Transport Federation and international standards.

A parade of those cars participating in the competition took place on October 25.

First they gave a demonstration at Azadlig Square, then raced on a special track along the coastal strip to the Kempinski Badamdar hotel.

The previous day during a press conference held at the Kempinski Badamdar hotel, where executive director of City Challenge Helmut Beyer said that the races will be observed by about 300 million people in over 120 countries and the world's attention will be riveted on Baku.

Also, yesterday, the racing drivers competing in City Challenge Baku-2012, signed autographs in Park Bulvar. Among them was Karim Al Askhari (UAE), Nicky Tim (Denmark) and Philipp Eng (Austria).

The competitions will continue on October 27 and 28. Previously, City Challenge was held in Budapest and Bucharest
