Azerbaijan detained foreigners who tried to illegally enter the territory of the Aghgol national park, according to a message from the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry of Azerbaijan.

Appropriate measures have been applied to 4 foreigners, who were intended to engage in illegal hunting in the park, the ministry said Oct. 31.

Last Sunday, Oct. 26, Iraqi citizens Jamal Ahmed Salm and Imad Alabersan Hlail were detained in a car while trying to enter the national park. Various hunting equipment was found in the car.

The same day, 2 citizens of Syria, Jamal Akil Mahfouz and Jomaa Aljodeia Khatab were detained during a raid. Special equipment for bird hunting was found on them as well.

Administrative protocols were prepared on the facts, and under the Code of Administrative Offences each violator was fined 2,000 AZN (about $2,500 on Oct. 31)

During the ministry's raids throughout 9 months of this year, 152 people were arrested for illegal hunting and 148 hunting guns were seized.
