Baku 2017 may increase youth’s interest in sport - Latvian envoy

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku can be considered continuation of the sporting events Azerbaijan has been actively organizing in recent years, Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Juris Maklakovs told Trend May 23.

The diplomat expressed hope that the Games will increase the youth’s interest in sport.

Maklakovs noted that he attended both the opening and the closing ceremonies of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, as well as a tennis competition within the Games.

The Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, the opening ceremony of which took place May 12, started May 8 and wrapped up May 22 in Azerbaijan’s capital on 16 sports grounds in 21 kinds of sports - 18 Olympic ones and three non-Olympic ones.
