A lecture entitled “Nazira to Imadaddin Nasimi’s Poems” by Azerbaijani scholar Saadat Shikhiyeva, studying the creativity of the country’s great poet Nasimi, was heard in the Baku Book Center as part of the Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Arts, and Spirituality.

The lecturer spoke about the circle of influence of the great poet’s creativity. Having explained the essence of nazira, Shikhiyeva stressed that in the Soviet period this form of poetic creativity was considered epigonism, imitation.

“In fact, creating nazira, the poets confirmed their skills,” she said. “Nasimi also wrote nazira, but this was not technical in nature. It reflected the original views of the author.”

Stressing that the influence of Nasimi's creativity was observed even during the life of the poet, Shikhiyeva stressed that this continues up till now.

“Not only poets, but also the rulers of the time created nazira using Nasimi’s poems,” she added. “Such rulers as Jahanshah Hagigi, Sultan Mehmet, Shah Ismail Khatai, Shaybani Khan, were influenced by Nasimi’s poetry.”

“Twenty years after Nasimi’s death, numerous nazira were written on his poems,” she said. “Those who lived and worked after Nasimi were more or less inspired by his poetry. In their creativity, they also used Nasimi’s thoughts and ideas.”

The lecturer stressed that not only Nasimi’s diwan (collection of lyric poems), written in the Turkish language, but also the diwan in the Persian language, gained popularity.

Shikhiyeva cited Seyid Yahya Bakuvi’s nazira as an example.

Then the lecturer answered the questions of the participants.
