Azerbaijan names mine-cleared area of liberated lands

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Over 25,000 hectares of Azerbaijani territories [liberated from Armenian occupation in the 2020 second Karabakh war] have been cleared of mines since November 10, 2020 [following the end of the war], Board Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency Vugar Suleymanov said, Trend reports.

Suleymanov made the remark at the opening of the "Humanitarian de-mining and sustainable development goals" international conference.

According to him, 55,000 mines and unexploded ordnances were found and defused in the liberated territories.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region is one of the most mine-contaminated regions in the world.

In accordance with the scale of the problem, de-mining the liberated territories in the post-conflict period remains a priority issue, the agency’s representative noted.
