BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. Armenia doesn't provide information about the remains of missing Azerbaijanis, Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, international proceedings on claims brought by Azerbaijan regarding the demand for compensation from Armenia in relation to citizens killed in the First Karabakh War are also carried out.
He pointed out that both within the country and on the international level, Azerbaijan is more concerned with the fate of missing citizens than with compensation.
"Joint actions are being taken in this direction with the State Security Service and the State Commission on Prisoners of War and Missing Citizens. After some time, the remains of missing persons are found, handed over to their relatives, and buried according to customs.
Unfortunately, the Armenian side does not provide information about these mass graves. As a result, this process is proceeding with difficulty. Nevertheless, significant progress has been achieved on this issue," the official added.
To note, a total of 3,961 people have been registered as missing as of August 1 due to Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, of whom 3,953 went missing during the First Karabakh War.
By August 30, 2024, the remains of 185 Azerbaijanis who were killed during the First Karabakh War and were buried in unmarked graves had been exhumed from 21 cemeteries across 13 cities and districts of Azerbaijan.
To note, according to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, more than twenty thousand Azerbaijanis were killed by Armenians during the First Karabakh War.
