The Azerbaijani national shotokan-karate team gained 10 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze medals at the European championship in Istanbul.
The Azerbaijani athletes excellently demonstrated their potential at the WSKF competitions, Ulvi Guliyev, the President of the Association of Azerbaijan Karate Federations (AAKF), told Trend.
They ranked 1 in 6 weight categories: Gurban Tagiyev (60 kg), Mehman Eynalov (65 kg), Rafael Agayev (70 kg), Seymur Husseynov (75 kg), Fuad Allahverdiyev (80 kg) and Fariz Najafov (+ 80 kg) and Gulnar Musayeva in open weight category.
Rashad Husseynov (68 kg), Amal Atayev (78 kg) and Fariz Najafov (+78 kg) won at the ju-kumit program. The Azerbaijani karatists won at the team cumite, where Azerbaijan ranks 1 at the European championship for fourth times. The 12th gold medal was gained by Sanan Aliyev at age of 13-14.
The attending were around 900 karatists from 22 countries.
