KfW official, health minister to discuss anti-TB project

The German Bank for Reconstruction KfW has asked for a meeting wit the Azerbaijani Health Minister, Oktay Shiraliyev. Baku Office of the KFW told Trend the meeting will be held during the forthcoming visit of the head of water supply and health section of KfW, Kurt fon Rabenao, to Azerbaijan on 7-11 November.

"The meeting was initiated for discussion of the program on �Struggle with TB and TB control’.

"In November it is planned to summarize the results of tender on delivery of medical laboratory for TB-diseased people. The selection will be carried out by KfW, the Azerbaijani Health Ministry and consultants. At present the delivery of necessary supplies to Azerbaijan is underway,” the same source underlined.

The German society of technical assistance GTZ is involved in the selection of contractors for the project. The construction and equipment of the laboratory is expected to cost $0.25m. The project is scheduled to start late 2005 and complete by March 2006. The facility should become a central TB laboratory in Azerbaijan.

In 2004 Azerbaijan and Germany signed a 5-year intergovernmental agreement on approval of 3m euro grant by KfW for the program on �Struggle with TB and TB control’.
