On Tuesday the Sabail district court of Baku city under the chairmanship of Judge Yusif Karimov rejected the complaint filed by former Health Minister Ali Insanov, who is under arrest, against TV and Radio channels AzTV and Lider, Trend reports.
The former Minister filed a suit on offending of his honor and dignity in the materials spread by the channels on 1 November. Defendants Abulfaz Karimov, of AzTV, and Ilgar Aliyev, of Lider TV, expressed request to continue legal hearings without participation of representatives of the plaintiff, as they did not appear before the court. The defendants regard the suit filed against them as baseless.
Karimov informed the court that the materials issued on 1 November were prepared by the National Security Ministry and the Prosecutor General’s Office. “Besides, such words as �criminal’, �bribe-taker’ allegedly offending honor and dignity of Insanov were not used in the materials,” Karimov stressed.
Aliyev stated that at the sitting of the court that in accordance with article 62 of the Law on mass media, media is free of responsibility in case of referring to source. The materials issued on 1 November were spread with reference to the National Security Ministry and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The judge rejected the suit by Insanov due to lack of evidence.
