Ex- special forces member to face trial for participation in the illegal gang formations

Court hearing of the case of ex-special forces member, Rovshan Aliyev has started on March 30. The case was heard by the judge- Anver Seyidov. Aliyev is accused on the article 279.3 of the Criminal Codex of AR (creation of the armed formations and illegal groups), Trend reports.

The preliminary investigation has discovered that Aliyev had served as a police officer in the post-patrol department of the Agdam district police in 1991. He became a member of the Special Forces group in 1992. In 1995 Aliyev as a Special Forces

member participated in fights in Karabakh and later took part in the fighting in Baku initiated by the Special Forces members.

After the Special Forces unit was dissolved, Aliyev has escaped to Russia where he was residing illegally for 12 years, avoiding arrest. During this period he was searched by Law Enforcement bodies in Azerbaijan. In December 2005 he made a call to the Agdam police department `s head, Shahin Mamedov and told about his desire to return to Azerbaijan and surrender voluntarily. A special group of law enforcement staff has visited the Kemerov district of the Russian Federation, where Aliyev was residing and brought him to Azerbaijan where he was placed under the arrest.
