Born and brought up in Atlanta, Georgia, Roberts is married to cameraman Daniel Moder. The two met on the sets of The Mexican in 2000 and married on July 4, 2002, at her ranch in Taos, New Mexico.
Before she met Moder, Roberts had been in long relationships with Kiefer Sutherland (1990-91) and television actor Benjamin Bratt (1998-2001). She was married to country singer Lyle Lovett for two years. The two separated in May 1995. She has briefly dated Friends star Matthew Perry and actor Daniel Day-Lewis. Her last relationship was with actor Liam Neeson.
When he first met Roberts, Moder was still married to his wife of five years Vera Steimberg, a make up artist.
Roberts is currently working in the film Charlie Wilson's War opposite Tom Hanks. The drama details how Texas congressman Charlie Wilson's covert dealings in Afghanistan, aimed at assisting rebels in their war with the Soviets, had larger unforeseen ramifications. The film is slated for release in December 2007 and its unlikely Roberts' pregnancy will impact its schedule.
However, future projects of the actor, who commands a salary of $25 million, the highest paid to any actress, are likely to be affected. These include The Friday Night Knitting Club, Eat, Pray, Love and Happiness Sold Separately.
