Trend S.Agayeva / According to the information provided by the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan, fifteen Azerbaijani citizens who are currently serving their sentences in Georgia may be extradited to Azerbaijan in the near future. The negotiations are held between the Justice Ministries of the two countries according to the appeal of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman and National Law-Observant of Georgia. There is a co-operation agreement between the human rights institutions of the two countries, both of whom are regularly monitoring the prisons.
According to the information provided by the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan, presently more than 100 Azerbaijani citizens serve their sentences in Georgian prisons, and nearly 40 prisoners have appealed to the Office of Ombudsman and Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan to assist in transferring them to prisons in Azerbaijan.
