Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Aflatun Amashev, the Chairman of Media Council of Azerbaijan, stated on 17 May that the arrest of Rovshan Kebirli and Yashar Agazade, the Editor-in-Chief and Editor, respectively, of the Muxalifat newspaper was excessive.
MP Jalal Aliyev's hearing, which was in regards to an academic lawsuit, was held in Yasamal district Court. During his hearing Mr. Aliyev complained about the media, resulting in the arrests of Kebirli and Agazade.
The Council does not support the arrest of representatives of Media and proposes the release of all imprisoned journalists.
"We will consider the representatives of the Muxalivat," Amashev added.
The Council will hold a conference with the aim of all imprisoned journalists being released; to prepare for the conference all related documents are being submitted to the corresponding State structures.
