Japan Doctors to Render Free Medical Care to Internally Displaced Persons of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Akio Kanai, the head of the Japanese Fuji Optic Limited Company and winner of the 'Nansen Award' and specialist on optics, as well as a group of five specialists will pay a visit to Azerbaijan to provide free ophthalmologic services from 12 to 21 June.

Within the framework of the visit, the Japanese doctors will provide their expertise and distribute glasses to 4,000 internally displaced persons of Azerbaijan, who reside in the Yeni Khojavand village of the Beylagan region, as well as in the Bilasuvar and Sumgayit regions of Azerbaijan.

Kanai and the delegation under his leadership will participate in the opening ceremony of the water supply system in the Yeni Khojavand and Tug villages of the Beylagan region, the construction of which was implemented through the assistance of Kanai and the Norway Refugees Council.

The implementation of the project had been continued from October 2006 to January 2007. The project envisaged water-well drilling, reconstruction of the water supply, which provides drinking water for around 2,000 people of the Khojavand region.

The officials, representatives of the Superior Commissariat of the UN on Refugees, and the Norway Refugees Council will attend the event.

Kanai allocated part of the Nansen Award, granted to him by the Superior Commissariat of the UN on Refugees, towards realizing the project.
