Relatives of Azerbaijani Soldier Taken Prisoner, Consider Public Information False

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Vidadi Mammadov, the uncle of Samir Mammadov, the soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, taken prisoner by Armenians, stated on 13 June that information made public by Armenian media regarding Samir Mammadov appealing to the President of Armenia with request to grant him refugee status, was false.

The Armenian media regularly spreads similar false information.

Mammadov stressed that the latest letters sent by the soldier were not written by him.

The family of the captive soldier expressed their discontent on function of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The representatives of the Committee have hidden objective information about the soldier and are evading questions addressed to them. The family of the soldier spoke about the patriotism of Samir and assesses the information regarding refusal of the soldier to come back to Azerbaijan false.

The Arminfo, the informational agency of Armenia reported that S. Mammadov appealed to the Armenian President with request to grant him refugee status.

Samir Mammadov was a soldier of the N Military Unit of Azerbaijan and was drafted to military service on 24 December 2006.

Valeri Seluymanan, who resides in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian-occupied Azerbaijani territories, was taken prisoner by Azerbaijanis in May.

Seluymanan noted that the Armenians of Karabakh are captured from the military regime that illegally operates in the occupied Azerbaijani territories. Seluymanan said that he does not want to return to the occupied lands.
