Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend К.Zarbaliyeva / The preliminary hearing under the chairmanship of Mirpasha Huseynov on appeal of the Court's sentence against the Editor-in-Chief and contributor of the Mukhalifat nespaper was held in the Azerbaijani Appeals Court on 29 June.
The Appeals Court declined the defendants' lawyers' petition.
The Court hearing was postponed to 4 July.
Journalists were convicted due to the lawsuit of MP Jalal Aliyev in compliance with Article 147.2 (slander and charges of a grave crime) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.
The journalists were sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment by the decision of the Yasamal District Court on 16 April.
