Agreement Reached on Mutual Broadcasting of Azerbaijani-Russian Channels (Version 2)

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / Gafar Jabiyev, member of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting, stated during the Task Group meeting held in Baku on 23 July that the draft agreement on 'Rules and conditions of broadcast between Azerbaijan and Russia' has developed with the aim of mutual broadcasting of Azerbaijan and Russia channels.

According to Jabiyev, the draft agreement consists of 11 articles which will be used as a basis for the technical agreement which is being developed by experts. The agreement envisages the broadcasting conditions of Azerbaijani 'AzTV' and 'RTR-planet' Russian channels. "The members of the Task Group have agreed that after developing the draft, the Azerbaijani delegation will leave for Moscow to discuss the agreement," Jabiyev added.

In compliance with the decision of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, the broadcasting of the foreign channels has been suspended since 10 July. Broadcasting of the Russian ORT and the Turkish STV channels were terminated. Due to negotiations regarding the broadcasting of the Azerbaijani AzTV channel in some regions of Russia, broadcasting of the RTR channel has not been suspended
