Negotiations on Broadcasting of Russian TV Channels in Azerbaijan to Continue in September in Moscow – Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr A. Gasimova / The negotiations on the prolongation of broadcasting Russian TV channels in Azerbaijan will be held in Moscow in September. "The next stage of the meeting of the contact groups will take place in Moscow in early or mid- September," Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vasiliy Istratov said at a press conference in Baku on 30 August.

During the meeting of the Council held at the beginning of January, it was decided to terminate the translation of the Russian ORT and RTR-Planeta channels, as well as the Turkish STV channel in Azerbaijan. Broadcasting of ORT halted on 10 July, and broadcasting of RTR-Planeta was extended to 10 August, after the Russian side applied to Azerbaijan for a prolongation. A tender was announced for STV. The members of the working groups have so far held two meetings.

According to the Ambassador, the bilateral agreement enabling the cooperation between the two countries has been already initiated. Azerbaijan submitted its considerations regarding the issue in June and Russia is considering their proposals, he said. The documents developed by the Russian side will be discussed in Moscow in September, Istratov noted.
