BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. Board Chairman of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads Saleh Mammadov visited the Kalbajar, Lachin, Gubadli, Zangilan, and Jabrayil districts liberated from Armenian occupation [in the 2020 Second Karabakh War], the agency told Trend.
According to the agency, the aim of the visit was to inspect the implementation of road infrastructure projects in the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions following the instructions made by President Ilham Aliyev on April 12 at a meeting, dedicated to the results of activities in the first quarter of this year, during which the president spoke in detail about the mentioned projects.
During the visit, Mammadov inspected the construction of the Toghanali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway and the tunnel through the Murovdagh mountain range, which will become one of the longest automobile tunnels in the world.
Currently, the construction of a roadbed and drainage systems on the Toghanali-Kalbajar-Istisu highway continues. In the tunnel, through Murovdagh there continues drilling work, which has been completed over a length of more than one kilometer in each direction.
Then the head of the state agency viewed the progress of earthworks on the Kalbajar-Lachin highway with a length of 72.3 kilometers.
Mammadov also inquired about the progress of construction of a new highway bypassing Lachin city, which will be commissioned this year. Currently, in parallel with the design of the road, the construction of the roadbed and one automobile bridge is underway.
Another important road infrastructure project in the Lachin district is the Khudafarin-Gubadli-Lachin highway. In the direction of the Gubadli-Lachin route, the construction of a 45-kilometer road section is underway.
The agency's head was informed that the construction of the Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zangilan-Aghband (Zangazur Corridor) road, which starts from the Khudafarin-Gubadli-Lachin highway, rapidly continuing. The construction of the roadbed, drainage, tunnels and bridges on the road continues at a high level in accordance with the schedule.
In the course of familiarization with the construction of roads, Mammadov gave recommendations and instructions for the timely and high-quality completion of road infrastructure projects, added the agency.
