BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. Large-scale construction and restoration work in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur regions led to an increase in the country's foreign trade turnover, head of department at the Azerbaijani Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications Nijat Hajizade told Trend.

According to Hajizade, from January through April 2022, Azerbaijan raised the import of goods by 15 percent compared to the same period of last year.

In the first four months, the country imported goods worth $4.1 billion. Food products accounted for 17.3 percent of the total imports. At the same time, the bulk of imports were machines, mechanisms, electrical appliances, equipment and spare parts for them, he said.

According to the expert, the growth of imports in this area is directly related to the concentration of low-, medium- and high-tech products in one group.

"This group concentrates products with high added value, which are necessary for all sectors of the national economy, as well as equipment used by citizens in everyday life,” Hajizade noted.

Among other goods, mainly construction goods such as wood and products from it, ferrous metals, plastic and its products predominate, he added.
