BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. Bosnia is very much interested in getting access to Azerbaijani gas, Mladen Ivanic, ex-President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, told Trend.

According to Ivanic, Bosnia is very much interested in the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) project, which is connected with the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is, in turn, a part of the Southern Gas Corridor.

“We have already signed the regional agreement on it. This project could be extended from Albania through Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Western Europe. We need other sources of gas supply due to the current energy crisis, and now we are working on convincing the EU on increasing support for this project,” he said.

The ex-president has expressed hope for the successful implementation of this project, and also for the overall cooperation boost between the two countries.

“Relations between Azerbaijan and Bosnia and Herzegovina during my presidency were very productive. We had very good personal relations, cooperation and mutual understanding with President Ilham Aliyev. Bosnian citizens have received significant support from Azerbaijan. There are few health care centers in Bosnia, which were rebuilt and developed, thanks to Azerbaijani support. This is especially significant because it was done among mixed local communities, where Muslims, and Christians live together. I believe that there are big prospects for our future prosperous cooperation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the planned capacity of the IAP is five billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, of which southern Bosnia and Herzegovina plan to use one billion cubic meters.
