BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 10. The total amount of natural gas transported through the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) from October 1 through November 1, 2022, amounted to 95 million cubic meters (1.1 billion kWh), the ICGB, an independent transmission operator, which is responsible for the commercial operation of the IGB, told Trend.

"The 182-kilometer gas pipeline connects the gas transmission networks of Greece and Bulgaria respectively at the Komotini and Stara Zagora points and is Bulgaria's direct connection to the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP). The total capacity of IGB is 3 billion cubic meters per year, with 1.57 billion cubic meters already booked under long-term contracts lasting up to 25 years," the company said.

The remaining free capacity is being offered in a transparent and accessible way on the two European platforms PRISMA and RBP, the source noted.

IGB connects Bulgaria with the Southern Gas Corridor and will enable secure supplies from a variety of sources to several countries in Southeast and Central Europe, including Moldova and Ukraine.

The pipeline is set to transport 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas per year to Bulgaria. Its capacity is 3 billion cubic meters with the possibility of expanding to 5 billion cubic meters per year.

The opening ceremony of the IGB was held in Greece's Komotini on July 8, while the inauguration ceremony was held in Bulgaria on October 1, 2022.
