BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30. The EU's crude oil production in 2021 continued to decrease, reaching its lowest level of 17.5 million tons (Mt), Trend reports, citing Eurostat.

According to the statistics, this is also 6 percent less, compared to 2020.

"Between 1990 and 2004, crude oil production fluctuated but was always over 34.5 Mt, peaking in 2004 at 41.7 Mt. Almost 20 years later it decreased by more than half," the report said.

Meanwhile, Italy ranked first among main oil producers in the EU with 4.8 Mt, followed by Denmark and Romania (each with 3.2 Mt).

At the same time, in 2021, Italy's production of crude dropped by 10 percent, Denmark's production was down by 8 percent, while Romania decreased its oil output by 4 percent year-on-year.

Moreover, the EU's oil and oil products import dependency in 2021 decreased to 91.67 percent, after a record high of 96.78 percent in 2020.

"This value is the second lowest since 1990, after the historical minimum of 91.66 percent in 1999," the report noted.
