BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. From January through April 2023, retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan increased by 2.9 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and reached 16.4 billion manat ($9.6 billion), Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
The turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 2.1 percent to 9.5 billion manat ($5.5 billion), while non-food products grew by four percent to 6.9 billion manat ($4 billion).
According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the population spent 52.7 percent of funds on the purchase of food products, 4.9 percent - on beverages and tobacco products, 13 percent - on textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.7 percent - on automobile fuel, 4.4 percent - on electrical goods and furniture, 2.4 percent - on pharmaceuticals goods and medicines, 1.1 percent - on computers, and 15.8 percent - on other non-food products.
During the specified period, the cost of goods sold by economic entities of the private sector increased by 2.9 percent compared to the reporting months of 2022 and amounted to 99.7 percent of the total retail trade turnover.
In the mentioned period, retail trade turnover in real terms grew by one percent for enterprises, by 3.7 percent for markets and fairs, and for individual entrepreneurs - by 3.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
The average monthly turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan per capita amounted to 404.7 manat ($238), including the turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products - 233.3 manat ($137.2), non–food products - 171.4 manat ($100).
