BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 29. Azerbaijan imported 1,608 kg of jewelry (silver and other precious metals) worth $21 million from foreign countries from January through June this year, Trend reports.
According to calculations based on the data of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, this is 2 times higher year-on-year in value terms, and 41 percent higher in quantitative terms.
Moreover, after a break (2 years and 7 months), 0.08 kg of jewelry worth $30,300 was imported from Australia from January through June 2023.
Earlier in 2022, gold and silver jewelry worth 71 million manat ($41.7 million) was imported, and 19 million manat ($11.1 million) was exported. Overall, the volume of jewelry market in Azerbaijan for 2022 was estimated at 153 million manat ($90 million).
Also, 50 percent of the total volume of jewelry exported to Azerbaijan (from 23 countries) fell on Italy in 2022.
