BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. Azerbaijan exported 5,160 tons of hazelnuts worth 27.4 million euros from January through July 2023 to the countries of the EU, the EU's statistical office, Eurostat told Trend.
This is 1.7 times less in quantitative terms and 1.8 times in value terms compared to the same period in 2022.
Azerbaijan exported 2,650 tons of hazelnuts to Germany (an increase of 1.5 times) in the amount of 14.4 million euros (an increase of 1.4 times), to Italy - 1,570 tons (a decrease of 4.2 times) in the amount of 8.4 million euros (a decrease of 4.6 times) in the reporting period.
According to Eurostat, EU countries imported 10,060 tons of hazelnuts from Azerbaijan in 2022 (an increase of 42.7 percent compared to 2021) in the amount of 58.1 million euros (an increase of 44.5 percent).
In addition, Azerbaijan exported $106.3 million worth of hazelnuts to the world market in 2022, which is $2.5 million (2.3 percent) less than in 2021.
According to the State Customs of Azerbaijan, in 2022 the country exported 21,860 tons of hazelnuts to the world market.
According to the International Nut & Dried Fruit Council for the 2022/2023 season, Azerbaijan ranks 4th among the world producers of hazelnuts.
During the reporting period, 24,000 tons of peeled hazelnuts were produced in Azerbaijan. The country's share in world production is four percent.
In general, the top three included Türkiye (415,300 tons - 71 percent), Italy (38,700 tons - 7 percent) and the US (31,900 tons - five percent).
