Azerbaijan plans to increase public spending on higher education in 2024

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16. The bill “On the State Budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2024" envisions an increase in expenses for education by 142.7 million manat manat ($83.9 million), or 3.2 percent compared to 2023, up to 4.5 billion manat manat ($2.6 billion), Trend reports.

The education expenditures in 2023 were envisioned to be 4.4 billion manat ($2.60 billion).

Compared to 2023, the top growth is expected to be in the area of higher education expenses.

The mentioned bill envisions an increase in expenditures on higher education of 64.2 million manat ($37.70 million), which is 91 percent, or up to two times, from 70.6 million ($41.5 million) to 134.8 million manat ($39.75 million).

Besides, the bill envisions preschool education expenses' increase by 11.9 percent to 453 million manat ($266.25 million), general education expenses by 13 percent to 2.37 billion manat ($1.39 billion), professional education expenses by 20 percent to 77.1 million manat ($45.39 million), secondary specialized education expenses by 16.6 percent to 101.1 million manat ($59.48 million), and expenses for additional education by 75 percent, reaching 20.7 million manat ($12.2 million).

The bill provides an allocation of 7.59 million manat ($4.47 million) for applied research in the field of education, which is 10.1 percent more than in 2023.

Meanwhile, the bill envisions a reduction in expenditures on other education-related activities by 16.8 percent, or 279.5 million manat ($164.26 million), to 1.38 billion manat ($815.7 million).
