BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 30. In the third quarter of 2023, the EU brought in energy products valued at 35.4 billion euros, totaling 65 million tons, Trend reports.
According to the European Commission, in comparison to the same quarter in 2022, there was a noticeable decline in both the value (down by 49.1 percent) and net mass (down by 11.3 percent) of imports.
Energy product imports constituted 17.7 percent of all EU imports during the third quarter of 2023. The fluctuation in this share from 2019 to 2023 can be primarily attributed to the pronounced volatility in energy product prices.
The proportion of petroleum oils in the overall EU imports increased from 9.1 percent in 2021 to 11 percent in 2022, maintaining at 10.6 percent in the first three quarters of 2023.
More substantial fluctuations were observed for natural gas, escalating from 5.1 percent in 2021 to 10.8 percent in 2022, before declining to 6.5 percent in the initial three quarters of 2023, the commission's report noted.
When comparing the third quarter of 2022 with the third quarter of 2023, imports of petroleum oils remained steady, while the imports of natural gas experienced a notable drop (from 13.1 percent to 5.2 percent).
