Azerbaijan discloses figures for food imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. Azerbaijan's food imports increased in value terms by 0.36 percent, or $2.082 million, to $585.138 million from January through March 2024, Trend reports via the State Customs Committee.

According to committee data, during the reporting period, the country imported:

• 11,630 tons of meat (up 2.32 percent) valued at $25.38 million (up 31.78 percent),
• 3,070 tons of milk (up 6.73 percent) valued at $4.716 million (down 26.1 percent),
• 5,417 tons of dairy products (up 19.94 percent) valued at $28.206 million (up 19.57 percent),
• 141,808 tons of vegetables and fruits (up 10.54 percent) valued at $99.275 million (up 19.46 percent),
• 2,366 tons of tea (down 29.35 percent) valued at $11.71 million (down 33.94 percent).

Azerbaijan also imported more than 261,252 tons of wheat, corn, and rice valued at $78.691 million.

Imports of vegetable fats and oils totaled 42,337 tons and cost more than $49.012 million.

From January to March 2024, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover fell 17.63 percent, or $2.075 billion, from $11.771 billion to $9.695 billion.

Exports accounted for $5.984 billion of international trade turnover, a $1.756 billion, or 22.7 percent, decrease from the same time last year. Exports accounted for 61.72 percent of total foreign trade turnover, down from 65.77 percent the previous year.

Azerbaijan's imports in the reporting period decreased year-on-year by $318.229 million, or 7.9 percent, from $4.029 billion to about $3.711 billion. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 38.28 percent, up from 34.23 percent a year earlier.

As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover, while remaining positive during the review period, declined year-on-year by over $1.438 billion, or 38.77 percent, to $2.272 billion from $3.711 billion in the 2023 review period.
