SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 26. Uzbekistan plays pivotal role in the establishment and success of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), said Jin Liqun, AIIB President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, at a press conference, Trend reports.
"As one of the founding members of the AIIB, Uzbekistan has been instrumental in shaping the bank’s growth, a contribution recognized on the global stage. Our collaboration with the government and people of Uzbekistan has been critical in driving positive change and unlocking the country’s immense potential," Jin Liqun stated. He underscored that the long-standing partnership between AIIB and Uzbekistan exemplifies the transformative impact of close cooperation in fostering sustainable development and boosting regional stability.
AIIB president emphasized that the relationship with Uzbekistan is more than just financial; it is a powerful testament to how multilateral institutions and national governments can work together to achieve shared goals. "The partnership between the AIIB and Uzbekistan is a shining example of how close cooperation can yield tangible and lasting benefits," he remarked, noting that the country’s development trajectory has been significantly bolstered by joint initiatives in infrastructure, energy, and transportation.
Jin Liqun also highlighted the active participation of neighboring Central Asian countries in the bank’s efforts to promote regional connectivity and cooperation. "It has been humbling to see the active participation of neighboring countries, including Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, underscoring their commitment to regional stability and collective efforts towards a more interconnected and collaborative future for all," he added.
The AIIB’s ongoing projects in Uzbekistan and the wider region have focused on modernizing infrastructure, boosting renewable energy, and creating more inclusive economies. Jin Liqun expressed optimism about the future of these partnerships and the broader regional efforts to create a more sustainable and interconnected Central Asia.
AIIB is hosting its first annual meeting of the Board of Governors in Central Asia on themed "Building Resilient Infrastructure for All" on September 25-26, 2024, in Samarkand.
Over two days, more than 25 panel discussions will take place, focusing on innovations in infrastructure financing, climate resilience, sustainable development, and the digital transformation of infrastructure projects.
