BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. The project of Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha highway has won first place in the world in the nomination “Innovative Construction Methodology”, Trend reports via Azerbaijan's State Road Agency.

Thus, the International Road Federation (BYF Global) selected the Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha highway project as the winner in the category of "Innovative Construction Methodology" for the European and Central Asian Regional Awards 2024.

An independent international jury, judges, and BYF Qlobal volunteers, each of whom is an expert in the field of roads and transportation, evaluated candidates to choose the winner of this prestigious award.

The State Roads Agency of Azerbaijan now joins an elite group of organizations whose exceptional projects have won awards for excellence, innovation, and positive social impact.

Emin Mammadzade, Head of the External Investments Division of the Agency's Main Investment Department, attended the award ceremony on behalf of the State Road Agency of Azerbaijan on September 26 in Plovdiv (Bulgaria).

Emin Mammadzade discussed Azerbaijan's accomplishments in road infrastructure and the ongoing implementation of significant road projects in his speech. It was noted that the renovation of road infrastructure in our country is one of the main issues under the control of President Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change this year, and the State Road Agency of Azerbaijan is actively preparing for COP29, along with all other relevant structures.

The event also mentioned that during the 44-day second Karabakh war in 2020, the Azerbaijani army liberated more than 300 towns, villages, and native lands from an occupation that lasted for almost 30 years. The event noted the construction of 45 road projects in the territory of Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, under the framework of the "I State Program on Great Return to the Territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan Liberated from Occupation," and on the orders of the head of state. The total length of the highways is 3,094 km.

The program has successfully implemented and completed seven road projects totaling 254.2 km.

Moreover, it was noted that 45 road tunnels with a total length of 69.1 km and more than 463 bridges, viaducts, and overpasses with a total length of about 13.4 km are being constructed in the road infrastructure projects being implemented today in the territory of Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions.

A total of 11 bridges, 7 tunnels, and 9 viaducts have also been constructed on the 81.7 km long Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha I technical level road, which is one of the most important road infrastructure projects and was selected as the winner in the nomination “Innovative Construction Methodology." The construction of the viaducts involved the use of the horizontal slip formwork method for concrete work.

“The projects you are implementing are very valuable, and I am sure that there are enough good works in the field of road infrastructure in your country that I will be able to see,” Secretary General of the CEDR (Conference of European Directors of Roads) Steve Phillips said.

“I must point out that an important aspect of the project presented to us here is that it was completed on time and to a high standard. This project, executed to the Western standards we know, will serve as a road hub at the junction of Europe and Asia,” said Christoph Demuth, Chief Project Management Officer at Kapsch.

“This is a huge success. We congratulate you on your country's achievements in the field of road infrastructure, especially in connection with the ongoing road safety activities,” emphasized Esteban Salinas, Director of International Business Development at Ekoposte.
