BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. There is no doubt that climate change is a global concern and a threat to many countries, and Kuwait is one of them, said Shaikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, as he delivered his national statement during the COP29 summit in Baku, Trend reports.
“We are seeing a rise in temperature and dust storms because of the lack of rain,” he stated, noting that these environmental shifts are accelerating and affecting the Kuwaiti population.
In response, Kuwait is actively pursuing environmental sustainability, committed to all climate agreements, including the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. Kuwait’s strategy includes initiatives to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, with plans to incorporate solar energy into 50% of the country’s electricity sector by 2050. “We aim to reduce carbon across all sectors,” he affirmed, detailing Kuwait’s strategic projects to lower emissions and adopt clean energy sources.
He also highlighted Kuwait’s broader regional support through the Arab Economic Development Fund. Managed by Kuwait, the fund has backed over 100 climate-related projects in developing countries, providing essential financial and technical support. “We invite developed countries to abide by their commitments and offer support to least-developed countries,” he urged, stressing the importance of international cooperation in enabling these countries to meet their climate goals.
The Crown Prince also expressed Kuwait’s gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting COP29, commending the country’s organization of the event.
