Azerbaijani Labour Ministry Announces Number of Registered Unemployed

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U. Ismaylova / The Azerbaijani Labour Ministry registered about 54,000 unemployed in the country up until 1 October 2007, Natik Mammadov, of the Azerbaijani Labour and Social Security Ministry, said on 26 October.

Some 34,000 people submit applications to find jobs in the Labour Ministry. Some 21,000 people were provided with jobs.

The Employment Department regularly holds labour fairs to decrease the number of unemployed in the country within the framework of the state program developed for 2007-2011.

The Minister said unemployed allowances would be allocated to 1,400 people. The minimum size of the allowance is AZN 24 a month and should be repaid to the department within six months.

The Azerbaijani Labour Ministry held labour fairs in fifty-four regions of Azerbaijan, including the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR). As a result of the fairs some 5,739 people were appointed to new jobs.
