Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 March / corr. Trend U. Ismayilova/ The agricultural sector of Azerbaijan should guarantee the food security in the country, Ziyad Samadzade, the chairman of parliament committee on economic issues said on 17 March.
" Azerbaijan has already completed the first stage of the state program on the social and economic development of the regions and the second stage is currently being developed," Samadzade said.
The first state program on social and economic development of the regions of Azerbaijan was adopted on 11 February 2004 and the program is expected to end this year. One of the key priorities of the program is the development of agriculture.
According to Samadzade, privileges have been introduced for farmers regarding the use of fuel, entrepreneurs have been granted credits and agriculture was exempted from all taxes except land tax in order to develop agriculture within the program.
According to Samadzade, work is being carried out in the regions to develop seed-growing, to improve the irrigation system and the quality of the leasing services. "We should try hard so that the majority of the consumer goods could be produced in Azerbaijan," Samadzadeh said.
