Azerbaijan, Lankaran, 8 October / Trend corr. P.Aliyeva/ During his visit to countryїs southern regions, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of an international airport in Lankaran (270km south of Baku) on 8 October.
President said the airport had been operating only domestic flights so far, but now international flights will be also available.
Reconstruction of the airport, worth $51.1mln, commenced in 2006. The project was implemented on the order of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL). Azvirt LLC constructed the runway; Turkish Zema constructed the airport building, cargo terminal and other premises.
The airport includes a building capable to host 150 passengers, a water reservoir, a cargo depot, a boiler-house and a water treating facility.
