The Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry State Veterinary Service is taking measures to prevent the spread of swine flu in the country, State Veterinary Service press secretary Yolcu Khanvali said.
"We are holding monitoring in regions where swine-breeding farms are located. We are taking samples of blood of pigs for laboratory examination," Khanvali said.
The results of monitoring will be made public on May 8.
There is live farming in Gabala, Zagatala, Shaki and Balakan regions, Ganja City and in suburbs of Baku.
Azerbaijan has temporarily prohibited the import of cattle production from American and European contingents.
Swine influenza is a deadly virus. Infection occurs through airborne droplets. The virus belongs to the genus micro virus subgenus A (H1N1). Peoples are infected by the virus through direct contact with animals.
