The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) allocated a grant to the State Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan in order to maintain safety standards to meet standards of air transportation services.

The grant will provide technical support to civil aviation, which will help Azerbaijan meet standards of the International Civil Aviation organizations in the field of safety and security control, creating an opportunity for exports of U.S. manufactured goods and services.

"This grant is a step forward in establishing direct air flights between Azerbaijan and the United States," USTDA Acting Director Leocadia I.Zak said. Moreover, the grant will significantly increase the trade and tourism opportunities between the two countries.

A grant $310,200 was presented during a signing ceremony in the office of USTDA in Arlington, Virginia. Zack and Director General of Administration Arif Mammadov signed an agreement for the grant on behalf of the Governments of the United States and Azerbaijan.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan selected the Wicks Group PLLC of Washington, DC as a U.S. contractor, which will support the financing by the USTDA. In addition to the grant, the Azerbaijani companies Azerbaijan Airlines and Silk Way Airlines will provide additional funds for the completion of the program of technical support.
